Squidging and other blah stuff

I have lots of knitting, but have felt a bit blah this week, so I have just been knitting on squidge cloths for my kitchen.  I didn’t get a photo up yet, but will do that soon.

Don’t know what my problem is — have not felt terribly motivated to do much.  The weather has been up and down, I have been a bit worried about the fashionista who is off living la vida loca.  I think I need a getaway — which I will be doing tomorrow.

I am driving a small group of women up to a retreat house in Concordia, which is about 2.5 hours north.  The weekend is a personal retreat, and we will see each other at meals and we will have a group gathering time around 8 p.m. in the evening.  I have been to this retreat center before and I always come home with an overwhelming feeling of peace and refreshment.  So I think this may be just what I need.  No television, no phones, no laundry, no cleaning, no cooking ( the retreat center has an awesome cook!), no dirty dishes.  Sounds like heaven, doesn’t it?

Soldier Daughter came down last Friday afternoon and we had a nice visit.  It was good to see her.  I had missed her a lot.  We went to dinner, then to an art reception of my mother’s, then browsed some shops, and went to see the new Christina Ricci movie, Penelope.  We had originally planned to see The Other Boleyn Girl because she loves the books, but it got 1.5 stars review and she didn’t want the movie to ruin the book for her.  We both thoroughly enjoyed Penelope.  The next morning we went to Target and Borders, and then ate lunch at Pei Wei.  Then she left to head back to the base and I went to my music lesson and then did some other errands — such as grocery shopping.

The cats miss the fashionista — they are both her cats.  She has had one of them since he was 6 weeks old.  I put my new comforter on my bed and covered it with a large beach towel so that it would not be covered with cat hair.  That darn cat pulled the towel back and laid on the comforter and the new shams.  The bed in the other room has a white duvet with a pink border on it.  So I put one of my grandmother’s afghans on it, thinking that it would satisfy him — but of course it didn’t.  He pulled the afghan back and laid on the white duvet — he is a Siamese mix and so there is black and brown cat hair everywhere.  The cat totally frustrates me.

Last night I made sweet potato and black bean quesadillas.  I boiled a sweet potato and then mashed it with black beans seasoned with lime and cumin.  Spread a portion of it on a whole wheat tortilla.  You could add cheese if you wanted to.  Then I put another tortilla on top and then grilled it on my stove top grill for 3-5 minutes on each side.  Removed it from the grill, cut it with a pizza cutter and then spooned some salsa on top of each piece.  It turned out very good!

I started a summer shell at the end of the summer and I got the back piece finished.  I am using Wildflower DK in a pretty sage green.  I think I will pull that out tonight and pack it to take to the retreat center.  A stockinette tank front will be simple mindless knitting and a good project for the weekend.
