Wow! I haven’t posted for over a month. Either I have had nothing to say or I have been busy — which do you suppose it it is . . .
I signed up for Sockapalooza 4 today. I love this swap. I have gotten lovely socks from the times I have participated in the past.
I was on a tv diet during Lent — and I was surprised to find that I didn’t really miss the television all that much. I found other things to do — got some reading done, listened to several books on CD, practiced more, cleaned more, knitted more — I may watch some tv, but not all that much. I have only watched the news twice since Sunday.
I did read several great books — The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri (which is now a movie), They Like Jesus But Not the Church by Dan Kimball, Three Cups of Tea by Steve Mortenson and a journalist whose name I forget, The Places in Between by Rory Stewart, and several others. Three Cups of Tea was excellent — about a man who builds schools — mainly for girls — in Pakistan and now Afghanistan. The Places in Between was about Mr. Stewart’s walk across Afghanistan.
Knitting content — I am working on finishing the second sock of a pair of hiking socks for a friend who recently moved to Yakima. I went to Hobby Lobby and bought beads and Stretch Magic clear cord to knit Bauble from the Spring issue of Knitty. HL’s Bead Treasures glass beads were on sale half off, so I bought enough packages to make several Baubles if the first one works out. I hope to get the beads strung by the end of the week so I can start knitting the bracelet over the weekend. One of my good friends has a birthday coming up and a Bauble would be a nice gift. I am also knitting several towels out of coned Sugar/Cream dishcloth cotton to use as dining chair covers — the long haired Siamese likes to lay on the chairs and I get tired of cleaning off the hair so someone can sit down. Towels I can just throw in the washer.
I am itching to garden! A few herbs came back, but I want to buy herbs, bedding plants — I have cannas to plant — I just want to spend some time outside — but we had SNOW right before Easter.
Ryan is leaving on Saturday. Eldest DD and the father worked out an agreement. She leaves this morning for a month of training in the Mojave Desert, so Ryan will go to his dad’s until the end of May. Then he will come back to eldest DD until her deployment — then back to dad’s. After this year, they will have a 6 month split and then renegotiate when Ryan gets close to school age. It will be a big adjustment for the little guy, but no one asked my opinion.
After Ryan leaves, I am going to start repainting and redecorating bedrooms. Youngest DD has been trying to find herself in Ft. Worth, but was home at Easter and talked about coming home in May. So I would like to get the bedrooms done in case she decides to come home. And I still have some purging and recycling and reorganizing to do in the basement family room, downstairs storage closet and utility room.
